Dance workshops
My training as a dance teacher was specifically to work with non dancers, so all you two left-feet dancers are more than welcome! Dance has become the art form with which I find greatest satisfaction and effectiveness in working as an artist in a community context.
Aims of Dance Workshops
I aim to offer the opportunity to develop the dance potential of participants, while gaining greater awareness, understanding and confidence in physical communication. While understanding that ability will vary, I aim to create an environment where participants learn to value every move, learn from each other, look at what you can do rather than what you can’t, all whilst learning to the feel the movements rather than the accuracy of routine. Most movement will be guided through imagery.
Objectives
- To introduce the group to a range of creative movement.
- The explorations of space, body, dynamics and relationships.
- To develop physical memory and awareness.
- To develop creative thinking and imagination.
- The exploration of non-verbal communication.
- To increase observational perspectives – different ways of seeing.
Methodology
Over a series of sessions I would introduce the above elements through a variety of themes. This will also introduce the participants to an awareness of body, space, dynamics and relationships. These workshops are designed to work individually and/or collectively.

Puppet and Mask Making Workshops
Aims of Puppet and Mask Making workshop Workshops
I aim to offer the opportunity to develop the street theatre making skills of participants. While gaining greater awareness of the process of making, the participants also develop awareness of the environment in which their mask or puppet is designed for. While understanding that ability will vary, I aim to create an environment where participants learn to value the learning process, learn from each other, and creatively challenge themselves. Participants are taught principles with which they can develop their own ideas.
Objectives
- To introduce the group to a range of making materials.
- To explore different making processes.
- To engage in the design process, with consideration of functional factors.
- To identify historical and cultural background to street theatre.
- To develop an understanding of how street theatre differs to other theatre.
- To develop creative thought and imagination.
- To explore the process of working collaboratively.
- To extend knowledge of physical and facial proportions.
- To extend visual and performance arts vocabulary.
Methodology
Over the series of sessions I would introduce the above elements through a particular theme. There would also be an introduction with the participants to a creative movement session, to demonstrate how puppets or masks are used effectively. These workshops are only designed to work over a number of sessions.

Stilt Walking Workshop
Aims of Stilt Walking Workshops
I aim to offer the opportunity to develop the street theatre performance skills of participants. While gaining the circus skill of performance on stilts the participants need to work together to achieve their goal. While understanding that ability to use stilts will be easier for some, I aim to create a safe environment where participants develop the confidence to walk at a new height.
Objectives
- To introduce the group to a structure of stilts.
- To demonstrate safety procedures, including falling from stilts.
- To develop confidence through the learning of a new skill.
- To develop physical balance.
- To develop an understanding of how stilts are used in street theatre.
Methodology
Over a number of sessions I would introduce the above elements through a fun filled process of conquering fear , whilst developing a new skill.
